When do the rides take place?
All rides except Earlybirds are on a Sunday starting at 9am. Arrive approx. 8:45 to be ready to roll. See here.
Novice/Newcomers rides are on the 1st Sunday of each month only. See here.
Earlybirds rides are on a Sunday starting at 7am. See here.
Where do the rides start/finish?
All rides except Earlybirds start and finish in the Rose Lane (Council) Car Park, Off Billericay High St, (behind Iceland) CM12 9BD
Earlybirds rides start at Gooseberry Green Roundabout, Billericay CM12 0LX
Where do you finish?
We return to the start at the Rose Lane (Council) Car Park or you can peel off sooner if you like but do let others know.
How long do the rides last for?
About three to four hours, depending on ride chosen, and is subject to weather conditions, punctures, abilities and stops. see here.
How many attend the Sunday rides?
Usually on a Sunday about 80 people attend all the ride groups.
Do you stop for refreshments?
Many but not all rides do, usually at a well-known tea-house, see here.
Should I eat before the ride?
Definitely yes! It’s good to have some food inside you beforehand.
What sort of bike do I need?
Basically, a road bike which you are familiar with and are comfortable on for the distance of ride you plan to do, Hybrid bikes are OK for the Newcomer/Novice rides.
Do I need any money?
Yes bring some cash to get a coffee/tea and food if/when we stop.
What will I need to make sure I have before I come out?
Bike must be in good working order (check brakes, gears and ensure tyres are inflated correctly), wear a helmet, carry spare inner tubes levers and a pump. You will need lights and mud guards in winter.
What sort of clothing do I need?
This depends on the expected weather conditions, please have a look at the weather forecast beforehand. It’s usually better to over-dress and expect the worse. Do avoid over-baggy clothing as it can get caught up in moving parts. You can always remove and carry discarded clothing with you. Wear sun cream if it’s forecast to be sunny.
When don’t you go out?
When it’s very windy, during heavy rain or when, during winter it’s likely to be slippery or heavy fog.
Do you ride on main roads only?
We try and get on to country lanes as much as possible. Ride leaders tend to know where they are going, so stick to the smoothest, nicest and prettiest routes available.
How far do I need to be able to cycle before I come out with ERCC?
You should be confident to ride the distance and speed of the ride you propose to do, see here.
How much does it cost to join ERCC?
Riding memberships £20 per year (£10 Juniors), Special rates for Family and Go-Ride memberships, Club membership link here
ERCC expects that non-members will join the club after having ridden with the club on a maximum of 3 occasions.
Can I ride wearing headphones?
No, ERCC does not permit wearing of headphones whilst riding on club rides.
