ERCC Go-Ride Winter Series 2020

We are again running our Winter Series at Redbridge Cycling Centre on the Closed Road Circuit using the lower circuit. Events will be held on 19th January, 23rd February, 29th March and 19th April 2020.

This series is designed to be an entry level event for riders who have little or no experience of racing (and for their parents who have never prepared a young rider for an event before!) We do not carry out gear checks, and although there will be riders wearing ‘proper kit’ and riding road bikes, you do not need any special gear -all you need is for your bike to be in good working condition and safe to ride, and to wear appropriate clothing and a helmet which is also safe. We encourage you to ‘have a go’ and award separate certificates for those riding non-road bikes as we appreciate you have to work a lot harder to get round the track than those who have sleek road machines!

Signing on is from 12.15pm, racing starts prompt at 1.15pm, finishing at about 3.15pm, with presentations back up at HQ afterwards.

Boys and girls will race together in their age categories (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16) but there will be separate awards. If there are sufficient numbers, there may be separate girls’ / boys’ races.

All riders will be eligible for the series Points Competition (best three results to count).

On-line entry ONLY via British Cycling https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/219037/Essex-Roads-CC-Go-Ride-Winter-Series-2020-Round-1

    Hi Dave,
I’d like to sign my son up for the whole series but can’t see how to do this using the BC online entry. It only shows the 1st event in January.
Could you point me in the right direct please.

Hi Sally, If you click the BC link for January entry and pay the £20 this will automatically give you entry to all 4 x races. Hope this helps and let me know if you need any further info.

    Hi Dave,

I’m planning to take a keen 15yo boy for the series. Dipping his toe into racing, he is curious what the day holds – is lower circuit 1km long? how many laps? how many riders do we expect in the U16 race and what kind of pace – a rough approx would be helpful.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th,
    Cheers
    Gerard

      Hi Gerard,

Thanks for your message. Yes the lower circuit is 1km long although the U16 race uses part of the hill (approx 1/2 way up to a cut through). The race is usually around 4-5 laps and we have around 10 – 20 riders in this group. Pace is 20+ mph average.

      Hope this helps.

      Kind Regards

      Dave

    Hi Dave,
We too are dipping our toes into circuit racing – I’ve entered my 14yo daughter for Sundays race, and thanks for your helpful comments about what to expect. My daughter is riding an adult bike, do you have any requirements about minimum or maximum gearing?

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

    Kind regards

    Martin

Hi Martin, that’s great we look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Regarding the gearing there are no rules on minimum / maximum gearing, the go racing is all about having a go and seeing what it’s all about. The bikes and riders clothing / helmet do have safety check at the rider briefing down on the track.

Hope this helps and see you Sunday.

      Best Wishes

    Hi Dave
Looking forward to coming along tomorrow with our 14yo daughter – we’ve just persuaded our 12yo daughter to also give it a try. The online entry on BC website is now closed, are there are any other entry arrangements for the event?
    Best wishes

      Hello Martin,

My apologies for the delay replying, i’ve had my eldest sons 18th birthday today and i’ve been unable to reply to any messages.

Thanks for the email, yes of course feel free to come along and register on the day for your 12 year old daughter as you have your 14 year old already entered. Please can you get to the signing on desk for 12.15 so that we can get the entry all organised for you in good time before the racing gets under way?

      Many thanks

      Kind Regards

Thank for a great day, this was our first experience for any organized cycling event. Our Grandchildren really enjoyed the cycling and meeting others young cyclists.

    Hello
My 15 year old is keen to try this race. He needs some video footage of a cycling race for his gcse pe . We’ve had a lot of difficulty getting permission for this in other races. Would he be allowed video footage in this race ?
    Thanks Emma

      Hello Emma,
Thanks for your email, however i’m afraid on board video recording of race footage is currently banned by British Cycling.
      Many thanks
      Kind Regards
