ERCC Go-Ride Winter Series Race Report 2019 – RD 1 – Redbridge Cycling Centre

Essex Roads Go-Ride Winter Series 2019

Race Report – Round 1 – 20.01.2019

A cold but beautiful sunny day greeted all the riders for our opening round of the 2019 Essex Roads CC Winter Series at Redbridge Cycling Centre with a total of 74 riders taking part in their respective categories. The temperature hovered in and around the 4-6 degrees region, feeling a tad warmer with the sun’s rays beating down on the lower circuit at Redbridge. The race format would be the same as previous years, the 1st race being a bunch start and the 2nd race a handicap race. Once the scores were added together from both races we had some excellent results with some new and familiar faces getting those podium places.

Getting off to a great start were the Under 8s, with 20 riders racing away to see who would be first back over the finish line.  In the boys race Emanuel Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) was the clear winner with Fabio Reina (LVYCC) finishing joint 2nd place with Harry Adshead (Redhill Raiders). Rounding off the podium coming in a well-deserved 3rd place was Justin Moody (Little Wheelers). Our very own Aldric wells picked up the award for the 1st ERCC rider over the finish line, a great effort Aldric.  In the girls’ races and with an excellent day’s racing and her first time on the top step of the podium was Aurelia Skinner (Little Wheelers) taking an excellent 1st place. In 2nd place and racing for the very first time was our very own Esther Luton (ERCC) also taking first ERCC female rider award, well done Esther and rounding off the podium with a super 3rd place overall was a familiar rider Leonie Fairhead (Little Wheelers). Well done everyone. We have some special mentions and a huge respect to the six under 6 riders who competed and rode very well in both races with smiles on their faces! It’s a very long way for such little legs! Well done to Leonie Fairhead (Little Wheelers), Thomas Adshead (Redhill Raiders), Cian Springett and Kaden Springett (Unattached), Albert Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) and last but certainly not least was Laurence Gordon (Colchester Rovers).

In the Under 10 girls, Hadjev Marmouze (Barking & Dagenham CC) had a superb start to the season with an excellent ride in both races taking her onto the top step of the podium. Erica Dodsworth had an equally superb start with an excellent 2nd place overall and Caelia McMorris (Little Wheelers) rounding off the podium in a fantastic 3rd place in her very first race, well done girls. In the boy’s racing David Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) continued the family winning streak taking 1st place in both his races, a superb effort and very well done David. Elijah Storti (Welwyn Wheelers) took a well earnt 2nd place and getting faster every time he races and we had joint 3rd place winners Austin Skinner (Little Wheelers) now stepping up to the U10 category and William Hughes (LVYCC), all very well deserved. First ERCC rider over the line and a regular at our events was Arnu Wells with Harry Martin Dunt coming in closely behind for 2nd ERCC rider overall, great result guy’s.

The U12’s got off to a cracking start with Lochlan Dyer (LVYCC) storming off to win both races, a very impressive ride, and with equally impressive rides team mates William Barlow (LVYCC) took 2nd place, Michael Marriott (LVYCC) and Thomas Wood (LVYCC) taking joint 3rd place on the podium making it an official LVYCC 1,2,3,4 well done lads! For the girls Barking & Dagenham CC fought back with Mary Olatunde (Barking & Dagenham CC) taking the top step of the podium and a well-deserved 1st place. Joining her on the podium was team mate Abigail Little (Barking & Dagenham CC) in a superb 2nd place with Martha Walker (LVYCC) rounding off the podium with a fine 3rd place and breaking up a Barking & Dagenham CC clean sweep!

The U14’s & U16’s joined forces racing together which included a short sharp climb (part of the infamous Hoggenburg) to test their legs and to see if their winter training had paid dividends. In the U14’s girls race Aimee O’Sullivan (LVYCC) took and superb overall win closely followed by her team mate Naomi Perry (LVYCC) in 2nd place and rounding off the podium team mate Lucy Warner (LVYCC) making it another LVYCC clean sweep of the podium, well done everyone. In the U14’s boy’s race and with an outstanding performance winning both races was Ethan Storti (Welwyn Wheelers) awesome ride Ethan, equally impressive and finishing second place in both races was Frederick Barlow (LVYCC) another awesome ride and finally with another awesome show finishing 3rd in both his races was Nate Gordon (Colchester Rovers), awesome, awesome, awesome, well done guy’s,

With only 2 x competitors signing up for the U16 races they were mixing it up with the U14 riders but having their own race within a race. Winning his first ever race at Hogg Hill was our very own Connor Stevens (ERCC) he rode superbly throughout and has excellent potential, keep up the great work Connor. Anna Scannell (Unattached) also rode to an impressive win and gained some excellent race experience, very well done to you both.

Well done to all riders, especially those who were racing for the first time, we hope you enjoyed it!
