Essex Roads Go-Ride Winter Series 2018 – Race Report – Round 3 – 25.02.2018
Round three of our 2018 winter race series was again very well attended by a wide range of clubs and taking into
account of the cold 3-4 degrees temperature, and with a wind chill making it feel like it was in the minus digits we
had an impressive total of 48 riders taking part in their respective categories! Once again all the riders were keen to
get racing on the lower circuit at Redbridge which was dry and fine for a perfect days racing. The riders each had two
races, a bunch race and a handicap race which gave them an overall score for the day. The largest field was the
Under 8s again, with 17 riders battling it out for the honours. In the boys race Austin Skinner (Little Wheelers) once
again rode to an impressive victory with Tommy Chilvers (Barking & Dagenham CC) and William Hughs (Lea Valley
Youth CC) tying on points to both take a well-deserved 2nd place. Another tie followed for the last spot on the
podium with Jake Williams (Essex Roads CC) and Emanuel Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) taking the honours. The
girls’ podium was an all-out Little Wheelers domination and once again the win went to Sophie Cummings (Little
Wheelers) making it 3 wins out of 3 races a superb performance, with Amelie Fairhead (Little Wheelers) finishing in
2nd place and her sister Leonie Fairhead (Little Wheelers) in 3rd place, all fantastic results and well deserved. A special
mention to the under 6 riders and newcomers in the U8 category who competed and rode very well in both races,
it’s all about having fun and the enjoyment of riding their bikes on this fantastic closed road circuit! Well done to
Edward Barlow (LVYCC), Emanuel Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) brothers Austin Raper, Henry Raper and Noah
Raper, (Little Wheelers) Hunter Wright, Leonie Fairhead and Justin Moody (Little Wheelers), William Hughs (Lea
Valley Youth CC), and last but certainly not least was Aldric Wells from our very own ERCC.
The under 10’s had 9 x riders competing for the podium places. With no U10 girls on the start line for today’s event,
the U10 boys had the race track to themselves to battle it out for the podium positions. Lochlan Dyer (LVYCC)
swapped his 4th place at round one for the top step of the podium this time, a well-earned 1st place Lochlan, with
newcomer Alexander Campbell (Limited Edition CC) placing a solid 2nd and David Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC)
once again completing the podium positions in a fine 3rd place.
The Under 12s race had 9 x riders competing, again making it a tough race in the windy, cold conditions for all the
riders who took part. In the boys race Thomas Mead (LVYCC) had a superb ride again with a 1st place, however with a
tie on points across the 2 x races he was joined by his team mate Charlie Yard (LVYCC) on the top step of the podium,
this being his first event in this series, very well done guy’s. Team mate William Barlow (LVYCC) improved on his
position in the last round taking a superb 2nd place and rounding off the podium in his first ever race was newcomer
Joe Peacock (ERCC) finishing in 3rd place. LVYCC once again dominated the U12 girls race. Naomi Perry finished in 1st
place improving on her 2nd place from the last round and Rebecca Gardiner took 2nd place again improving her
previous 3rd place at round 2, well done LVYCC. Rounding out the podium in a very well earned 3rd place was Mary
Olatunde (Barking & Dagenham CC).
The U14’s & U16’s races once again included a short sharp climb (part of the infamous Hoggenburg) to test their legs
and their lungs on this leg burner of a hill. In the U14’s girl’s race Amy Harvey (Barking & Dagenham CC) had another
great day at the races, taking 1st place, with her team mate Carys Dodd (Barking & Dagenham CC) and Aimee O’
Sullivan (LVYCC) taking joint 2nd place and in a fine 3rd place was Lucy Warner (LVYCC). In the U14’s boy’s race Charlie
Knowler (West Suffolk Wheelers) upset the LVYCC winning streak with an incredible performance in both the bunch
and handicap races. We had another 2nd place tie break with Jack Charlton-Hunt (LVYCC) and Brandon Baldacci
(LVYCC) taking the honours and in 3rd place was Frederick Barlow (LVYCC) rounding off the podium for an excellent
LVYCC team performance.
In the U16’s boys race we had a clash of the titans resulting in a joint 1st place, Zac Seddon (Beacontree Wheelers)
and Max Wilkins (Hornchurch CC) taking the honours, very well done guy’s. Daminan Dodd finished in a superb 2nd place overall and, and Jack Lofty (LVYCC) rounded off the podium with a great 3rd place, well done guy’s. In the U16 girls race Hannah Morgan (Barking & Dagenham CC) had the girls race sewn up from the start being the only female entrant. This didn’t stop her mixing it up with the boys and we are sure to see her on the podium again as the season progresses.
Well done to all riders, marshals and parents for braving the cold weather, especially those who were racing for the
first time, we hope you enjoyed it!
The final race in this series is on Sunday 18th March, remember the your best 3 x races count towards the points
competition and overall series winners will be awarded with their medals at the awards presentation straight after
the event. It’s still wide open with many results still to be determined at the last race, so all is to play for – we hope
to see you there!
