Essex Roads Go-Ride Winter Series 2019

Race Report – Round 4 – 31.03.2019

Spring had finally sprung for our final round of this winter series which saw 73 riders taking part across their respective categories. Temperatures in double digits for a change gave rise to some excellent racing especially for those riders looking to clinch the overall series medals and trophies!

U8’s

Everyone was keen to start the day’s racing and once again using the lower circuit at the superb Redbridge racing  track we saw the largest field of the day with the U8’s which has been very well attended across all four rounds. A total of 23 riders were about to spin their legs to the challenge ahead of them and getting off to an excellent day’s racing the boys series leader Emanuel Budjei (Barking & Dagenham CC) and Harry Adshead (Redhill Raiders) took joint 1st place with Harry Limn (Unattached) taking 2nd place closely followed Harry Plumadore (Redhill Raiders) in 3rd place. Aldric Wells was our first ERCC rider to cross the finish line. In the girls race it was a repeat of round 3 with Emma Knox (Verulam CC) taking a well-deserved first place with newcomer Cally Little (Unattached) taking a superb 2nd place. Rounding off the girl’s podium was Ellie Whittle (Little Wheelers). A special mention to our U6 riders whi did very well indeed. Congratulations go to Lawrence Gordon (Colchester Rovers CC), Leonie Fairhead (Little Wheelers), Elizabeth Moody (Little Wheelers), Jared Little and last but not least Thomas Adshead (Redhill Raiders), well done everyone all excellent results!

U10’s

The under 10’s had 18 x riders competing for the podium places. For the girls Hadjer Marmouze (Barking & Dagenham CC) did an excellent job racing again taking a well-deserved 1st place girl on the day as well as the overall series win. In joint second place Erica Dodsworth (Maldon & District CC) who took 2nd place in the series overall and Eloise Ward (Islington CC) rode very well and Caela McMorris (Little Wheelers) again taking another fine podium 3rd place and also finishing 3rd overall in the series. The U10 boys had another great day in the saddle with series leader David Bujdei (Barking & Dagenham CC) taking an excellent win and the series overall, well done David. Austin Skinner (Little Wheelers) had another superb 2nd place as well as taking 2nd place in the series overall with Freddie Collier (Islington CC) rounding off the podium in 3rd place, great racing guy’s. William Hughes (LVYCC) who had a few bike issue’s today held on well to take 3rd place in the series overall, well done William! Arnu Wells (Essex Roads CC) was the 1st ERCC rider across the line today, nice job Arnu!

Under 12’s

The Under 12s race had 20 x riders competing compared to only 6 x riders the same time last year so this contest was shaping up nicely for some excellent racing today! In the boys race and dominating throughout this series 1st place once again went to Lochlan Dyer (LVYCC) also taking the series overall, well done Lochlan, superb racing! Team mates William Barlow (LVYCC) and Thomas Wood (LVYCC) once again proved their consistent performances have paid dividends with joint 2nd places and 2nd and 3rd place overall in the series. Rounding off the podium was newcomer Henry Ogunyemi (Redhill Raiders) in a fine 3rd place. In the girls race newcomer Ellie Mitchinson (CC Ashwell) took an excellent 1st place with Mille Dean (Wigmore CC) taking another excellent podium position finishing in 2nd place and also 2nd overall in the series, well done Mille. Sophie Potter (Barking & Dagenham CC) finished joint 3rd place and also taking 3rd in the series overall with Martha Walker (LVYCC) who took an excellent 1st place overall in this series.

The U14’s & U16’s races once again included a short sharp climb (part of the infamous Hoggenburg) to test their legs and their lungs on this leg burner of a hill.

U14’s

We had 9 x riders in the U14’s races. Aimee O’Sullivan (LVYCC) continued her excellent run of form with fantastic race wins in her events, well done Aimee. Team mate Nyomi Perry (LVYCC) not in attendance today meant that both she and Aimee finished a superb joint 1st place in the series standings, awesome result girls! In the U14’s boy’s race Frederick Barlow (LVYCC) took a superb 1st place in today’s race and joint 1st place overall in the series with his teammate Benedict Walker (LVYCC) brilliant performances from both throughout the series.  Taking a fine 2nd place in his first race of the series was Todd Eaglen (West Suffolk Wheelers) and in 3rd place was Benedict Walker (LVYCC) rounding off the podium for another excellent LVYCC team performance, again well done everyone.

U16’s

There were only 3 x riders in the U16’s category, with Connor Stevens (ERCC) the only boy racing in amongst the U14’S and racing very well throughout in his first ever series! With another win and the series win overall Connor took the honours, all well-deserved. In the girls race we had newcomer Lois Eaglen (West Suffolk Wheelers) taking an superb win and Anna Scannell (ERCC) finishing in 2nd place but sealing the number one spot in the overall series, well done to all.

Well done to all riders and huge congratulations our series winners, who have performed consistently well during the competition. Thanks to our fantastic marshals and volunteers and to all parents, family and friends for braving the cold and sometimes windy weather during this series, and of course a huge thanks to Redbridge Cycling Centre, Dave and Sylvia have kept us fed and watered (and warm) throughout this series, thank you everyone.

A Message To All Of Our Competitors

Thank you for again for your commitment and dedication at this year’s winter series, you have all been amazing, really amazing and you should all be very proud of yourselves. The results from you all are the culmination of all the riding, specific training sessions and racing you have done up to this point and I hope you’ve had fun along the way. That’s what it’s all about, having fun and enjoying riding your bikes, races are won days, weeks, months and even years ago, consistency is key and as always never give up, you will all be stars!
